It is said that devotion started in Seville by people from Gibraltar who settled around the Parish of St. Martin. A statue of Our Lady of Europe may still be found there.

A painting of Our Lady of Europe was found whilst a house was being refurbished. Soon people developed a devotion to Her. Later a chapel-niche was erected (aprox. 1715). The square in which it stood was called “Plaza de Europa”.

It is widely accepted that Seville’s Marian devotion stands extremely high. Our Lady of Europe’s Confraternity in Seville would also participate in public devotions.

In 1854, a new home was constructed for Our Lady’s statue at St. Martin’s Parish Church. It was felt that this move would increase devotion, others disagreed.

This Confraternity held its last meeting on 4th January 1986 as devotion to Our Lady of Europe died away.
